ODESSA — A man in a bunny mask and two also-masked accomplices broke into a McDonald's early Wednesday, hoisted an automatic teller machine into a stolen minivan, then dumped the ATM and the van into a pond, deputies say.
The three men parked the white Chrysler Town and Country minivan in front of the McDonald's at 8506 Gunn Highway about 3:40 a.m. and broke a side window to get inside, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office reported. Once inside, the man in the bunny mask used bolt cutters to cut a wire attached to the ATM and helped a second suspect push it through broken window.
All three men then lifted the machine into the van and fled west on South Mobley Road toward Race Track Road. The van was discovered later in the day in a pond on the 400 block of Lafeyette Boulevard in Oldsmar with the gutted remains of the ATM inside.
The burglars got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, deputies said. The van's rear seats had been removed and were still missing Wednesday.
