Man sold alcohol to teen in Largo, police say

LARGO — A store was shut down after its owner sold alcohol to a minor, police say.

During the past week, the Largo Police Department received numerous complaints from a parent that someone at Raj's Food and Beverage Store, 12185 Indian Rocks Road, was selling alcohol to middle school children.

Investigators had a 17-year-old aide try and buy alcohol at 11 liquor stores. Police say the teen was shut down at all but one store — Raj's Food and Beverage.

Police arrested owner Mohammed Alam, 52, charged him with selling alcohol to a minor and closed the store. Alam was released a few hours later.

The police report and parent complaints are headed to the division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, which could revoke the store's beverage license.
