Man who crashed into trooper's car in Hillsborough caught in Pasco, FHP says

WESLEY CHAPEL — A man rammed his car into a Florida Highway Patrol cruiser in Hillsborough County and led authorities on a chase into Pasco County Wednesday afternoon, according to Sgt. Larry Kraus, the agency's spokesman.

Kraus said the suspect – Reginald W. Howard, 36, address unknown – was caught on Curley Road in Wesley Chapel. He said the trooper whose car was hit was not injured.

"He's fine," Kraus said. "It was a minor incident."

He said the incident began about 12:30 p.m. on the Suncoast Parkway when a trooper clocked Howard speeding and tried to pull him over. Kraus said Howard fled, pulled off on the exit to Dale Mabry Highway and drove his car into the side of a trooper's cruiser.

Kraus said Howard, who has been arrested 24 times and spent nearly a year in prison for grand theft of a motor vehicle, is in custody and faces charges of aggravated battery, aggravated fleeing to elude and driving with a suspended license.
