Man who prompted high school lockdown in custody

TAMPA — The man whose threatening behavior prompted Riverview High to spend a day in lockdown has been arrested.

The U.S. Marshals Service found Carlos A. Hernandez, 37, late Monday at a relative's home on Moss Laden Court, police said.

He is charged with attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault with a firearm, tampering with a witness, battery domestic violence and violation of a domestic violence injunction.

Tampa police say Hernandez confronted his estranged wife outside her workplace, Quest Diagnostics, on Fowler Avenue in Tampa, Monday morning with a gun tucked in his waistband.

Police say he tried to push her into his truck and threatened to kill her teenage son.

Riverview High School, where the boy is enrolled, was placed on lockdown for much of the day Monday while law enforcement searched for the man.

He is being held without bail at the Orient Road Jail.
