Man stabbed, woman hurt in home invasion

A 45-year-old man is accused of stabbing a man and beating a woman early Wednesday after breaking into their home. Steven R. Tanner was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with home invasion robbery with a weapon.

Pasco sheriff's deputies responded to a call at 7300 Gulf Breeze Circle about 1:30 a.m. Laura K. Maltese, 42, heard someone trying to break into her home, the Sheriff's Office said. She confronted Tanner, whom deputies said she knew, and asked him what he was doing there. He pushed past her, according to an arrest affidavit, demanding her medication.

In the living room, Tanner confronted Maltese's boyfriend, Mitchell E. Kohn, 49, who was sleeping on the couch, according to the report. Tanner stabbed Kohn in the abdomen, deputies said. Maltese told deputies she tried to stop Tanner, who punched her several times in the face. Kohn was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet. His wounds did not appear to be life-threatening, deputies said.

Tanner was arrested at his home a block away, at 7133 Florestate Drive. He remains at the Land O'Lakes jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.
