Man wounded in drive-by shooting in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG — A man was wounded in the leg Thursday afternoon when someone shot at him from a moving car, police said.

The victim, Kevin Carl Valentine, 25, was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with non life-threatening injuries. Police said he has not been cooperative with detectives.

Officials were called at about 1:50 p.m. to 16th Avenue S and 35th Street.

Witnesses said a man driving a red Volvo drove by the victim and shot at him multiple times with a handgun.

Officers spotted the car a few minutes later getting onto Interstate 275 at 22nd Avenue S. The driver refused to pull over and they started chasing it. The pursuit was called off when officers lost sight of it near Roosevelt Boulevard, police said.

Detectives later found the car in the parking lot of the Bel-Air Apartment Complex at 1200 102nd Ave. N. No one was inside.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (727) 893-7780.
