Manager stole, pawned $26,000 worth of equipment, Clearwater police say

CLEARWATER — A St. Petersburg man stole nearly $26,000 in audio visual equipment over the course of more than a year, Clearwater police say.

According to an arrest affidavit, Jose Alvira worked as a manager at Five-Star AudioVisual, which has an office at the Sandpearl Resort in Clearwater.

While employed there, he stole items, then hocked them at six different pawn shops across the Tampa Bay area.

The thefts were discovered when officials conducted an inventory of equipment, the affidavit says.

Alvira, 50, admitted to the theft and assisted police in locating some unsold items at two pawn shops.

He was arrested Wednesday on charges related to grand theft and three counts of dealing in stolen property. Alvira was released from the Pinellas County Jail on Thursday.
