Man's death in Zephyrhills home fire classified as homicide

ZEPHYRHILLS — Authorities have classified as a homicide the death of a man whose body was discovered in a mobile home fire early Sunday morning.

The suspicious blaze at 4636 Lane Road was reported about 4 a.m, according to Pasco Sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll. The body of Richard S. Massey, 58, was found at the scene.

Deputies believe the fire "was intentionally set to cover evidence of his murder," according to Doll.

The Sheriff's Office has not yet released a cause of death.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Tim Harris at (727) 844-7711.
