Marijuana-growing operations found at two Brooksville homes

BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County Sheriff's Office deputies participating in a statewide, specialized narcotic enforcement investigation arrested on Wednesday a Miami man suspected of running marijuana-growing operations at two Brooksville residences.

According to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sgt. Donna Black, investigators acting on search warrants discovered the grow houses at 26208 Pine Hill Drive and 26136 Blackjack St. in Brooksville.

Authorities found a total of 475 marijuana plants and more than 37 pounds of loose marijuana at the two residences. They also seized nine air-conditioning systems, plus a device used to divert power.

Ruben Cabrera, 48, of Miami faces charges of cultivation of marijuana, grand theft, felony possession of marijuana and trespass of a utility device. He was booked into the Hernando County jail in lieu of $20,500 bail.
