Middleton student had loaded gun at school, police say

TAMPA — A Middleton High School student was arrested Wednesday for carrying a loaded gun on campus, police said.

Jadell M. Darnes, 16, of Tampa was arrested 12:21 p.m. Wednesday after Tampa police officer P.C. Davis, the Middleton school resource officer, got an anonymous tip that the teen had a gun. Davis took Darnes to a secure area to search him and found the loaded weapon in his jacket pocket.

Darnes faces a felony charge of having a gun on school grounds. He was arrested without incident and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center, police said. He told police he found the gun while walking to school, said Tampa police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor.
