Missing woman involved in Largo crash found, arrested

LARGO — A woman reported missing Thursday after she was involved in a traffic crash in Largo was arrested Sunday night, police said.

Julie Ann Smith, 48, of Clearwater faces a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.

About 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Largo police responded to a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Keene and Belleair roads. Smith, driving a blue Toyota, had rear-ended a car stopped at a red light, police said.

She then left the scene without providing information to the other driver, police said. Officers later found the Toyota abandoned in a nearby neighborhood.

Largo police searched the area, along with dogs and a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office helicopter, but they couldn't find Smith. Her family filed a missing persons report with the Sheriff's Office on Thursday.

She was arrested about 8 p.m. Sunday.

Smith was booked into the Pinellas County Jail, but she was released early Monday.
