Month-old St. Petersburg girl suffers severe head injuries, father blamed

ST. PETERSBURG — A 27-year-old man is accused of aggravated child abuse against his infant daughter.

Police say Jackie Ray Holloman's 1-month-old daughter suffered severe head injuries Tuesday, and he did nothing about it for an hour even though he knew she was hurt.

Holloman said he dropped the baby, but police say the baby's injuries are more severe than that.

The infant had extensive bruising on the left side of her face, a skull fracture and multiple blood vessel ruptures just outside the brain, police said.

A Child Protection Team doctor concluded the baby's injuries were the result of physical abuse. The hemorrhaging the baby suffered can lead to stroke or other medical problems.

The baby's condition was unknown Saturday.

Holloman was arrested Friday on a charge of aggravated child abuse and is being held in the Pinellas County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
