A motorcyclist was killed Sunday night when he crashed after clipping the back of a trailer and was struck by another vehicle on the upper deck of the Selmon Expressway in Brandon.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. near Falkenburg Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Anthony Dorofy, 43, of Brandon, was riding eastbound in the outside lane when he tried to pass 60-year-old Lori De La Gardelle of Brandon, who was towing a trailer with a 1998 Chevrolet.

Dorofy crashed and was thrown from the motorcycle before being struck by a 2017 Mercedes E300 driven by Cecile Nash, 69, of Valrico, troopers said.

Dorofy died at the scene, troopers said, and the other drivers were not injured.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, troopers said, and charges are not pending.
