Mutilated cat remains found in Tampa Heights park

TAMPA — Partial remains of a mutilated cat were found Tuesday morning in a Tampa Heights park but some of the body is still missing, police say.

A man found the front half of a cat Monday morning in Plymouth Playground, according to Tampa police. He recognized the remains as Lion, a 5-year-old gray tabby that belonged to his neighbor.

Tuesday morning, Lion's hind legs were discovered in the park.

The cat was stabbed or shot and was cut in half with a sharp object, police said.

Tampa police say that anonymous tips may be eligible for a reward. Contact Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-873-8477 (TIPS).
