MySpace profile revealing of suspect in child-sex sting

LAND O'LAKES — Adam Shepherd wrote a blog entry on his MySpace page two years ago saying he loves women — that they are the most beautiful things on the earth — but wanted to know why they are all psycho.

His friends wrote comforting notes, saying he will find someone he loves — someone nice and normal. But they said he needed to "stop meeting chicks off the phone thingie" — meaning phone dating services.

He didn't stop.

And, according to authorities, one of those women he met on the phone called the cops on him, leading to his arrest Saturday evening.

She told deputies that during their conversation, Shepherd — who is 25 and lives in Jacksonville — began talking about children.

Then the conversation turned to Shepherd saying he wanted to have sex with children, according to Donna Black of the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.

The woman worked with law enforcement to set up a sting. On Valentine's Day, authorities say, Shepherd drove from Jacksonville to Spring Hill in Hernando County, thinking he was going to have sex with two children, ages 6 and 9.

The arranged meeting time was 4 p.m. The spot turned out to be a vacant house. Deputies were there to arrest him.

But, authorities say, Shepherd took off, ramming his silver Ford F-150 pickup truck into Hernando County Sheriff's Office cars. As he fled, he hit an unoccupied vehicle at Mariner and Northcliffe boulevards and kept on going.

As he sped south he nearly caused several crashes, deputies said, and soon the Florida Highway Patrol and Pasco Sheriff's deputies were in pursuit. It all ended on U.S. 41, just south of State Road 52 in Land O'Lakes. Deputies put spike strips on the road, puncturing Shepherd's tires. No one was injured, deputies said.

Shepherd was held Sunday in the Pasco County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail, awaiting transfer to Hernando. He faces numerous charges from both counties, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and traveling to meet minors to engage in sexual activity.

On his MySpace profile, he said that he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville in 2001. He lists his job as "high voltage electrical."

His profile photo is of him, grinning, sitting in the passenger seat of his truck. In the driver's seat is a female blow up doll.

He makes many sexual references throughout his profile. His favorite pizza, for instance, is "one with a hot girl on it." His favorite movies are "porn," favorite books are "dirty," and favorite hero is "John Holmes," the adult video star of the 1970s and '80s.

His last login was Friday. His mood was "under-stimulated."

His photos are mostly of his truck, a motorcycle, some friends and his "buddy," a young blond boy. In the slot asking about children, he lists himself as a "proud parent."
