New Port Richey man, 25, shot in overnight home invasion

NEW PORT RICHEY — A 25-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg after four assailants armed with baseball bats and a gun entered his apartment at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

The door to the victim's apartment at Trinity Palms at Seven Springs on Columns Circle was unlocked, said Kevin Doll, spokesman for the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

The assailants beat the victim with the bats, shot him in the left leg and tied him with duct tape. They then ransacked the apartment — which smelled of marijuana — and stole money, Doll said.

The victim's injuries were not life-threatening, Doll said. The case is under investigation.

Authorities have not released the victim's name.
