New York rape suspect with St. Petersburg ties bails out of jail

A former St. Petersburg teacher who police say raped a 13-year-old New York girl is out of jail on bail, according to an upstate New York newspaper.

Michael J. Scaringe Jr., 61, was released from the Franklin County (N.Y.) Jail at 1 p.m. Wednesday after family members posted $150,000 bond, according to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise. His lawyer told the paper that Scaringe is staying with family members in Albany, N.Y.

In the mid 1990s, Scaringe was acquitted of molesting a 14-year-old girl at Bay Point Middle School in St. Petersburg.
