REDINGTON SHORES — A 49-year-old St. Petersburg man led officers on a wild albeit short chase through several Pinellas communities on Tuesday, according to Indian Shores police.

Moses Spells Jr. drove through red lights, onto back yards and sidewalks and through neighborhoods and busy thoroughfares, police said.

No one was injured, though Spells had several near-misses with motorists, according to police.

The chase lasted 10 to 15 minutes and took officers from Redington Shores to Seminole to Bay Pines. It ended when Spells got stuck in traffic and was arrested.

According to police, the chase started about 2:30 p.m. when an Indian Shores officer pulled over Spells' red 1994 Ford F-150 pickup in the 17700 block of Gulf Boulevard because he and his two passengers weren't wearing seat belts. But as an officer explained the violation to Spells, police said, he sped off. Police started a pursuit.

Spells of 2320 17th Ave. S in St. Petersburg was charged with fleeing from a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence, driving with a license suspended or revoked, operating an unregistered vehicle and violating his probation on an old charge of petty theft.
