Officers make arrest in Tampa motel shooting

TAMPA — Officers arrested a 26-year-old man Tuesday, accused of shooting another man during an argument at a motel, police said.

Morris Dovone Bush and another man were speaking with Ulrich J. Johnson, 45, at the East Gate Motel, 1301 Hillsborough Ave., when the conversation "became confrontational," Tampa police said.

Bush pointed a handgun at Johnson and fired several times, police said. Bush and the other man, who was also speaking with Johnson, then drove off in a blue two-door Honda.

Witnesses called 911. Johnson had gunshot wounds to his abdomen and left arm and was taken to a nearby hospital. Police described his condition as stable Wednesday.

Detectives were still trying to identify the second suspect.

Bush faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm, armed burglary and attempted first-degree felony murder.

He was booked into the Hills- borough County jail, where he remained Wednesday in lieu of $515,000 bail.

An investigation is ongoing.
