TAMPA — An Ohio man awaits extradition to Florida after being charged with driving under the influence in a July crash that killed a young woman.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Dale Alan Thompson, 26, of Hamilton, Ohio, lost control of a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt on July 12 as he exited Interstate 275 at Himes Avenue. The car spun into a grass median, hit a chain link fence and power pole before flipping over onto its roof.

Passenger Brittany Michelle Wentz, 21, of Tampa, was injured and died 10 days after the wreck.

Troopers said Thompson's blood alcohol was .174 percent shortly after the crash; the state presumes impairment at .08.

A warrant was issued for his arrest and he was picked up by Ohio authorities, troopers said.
