TAMPA — A man sought as a "person of interest" in slaying that took place over the weekend near the University of South Florida was arrested Tuesday on a murder charge.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said the murder was retaliation for a stabbing.

Jeffra Jetziel DeJesus-Cirino, 20, faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Michael Liroy Fuentes-Fuentes, 30.

Fuentes-Fuentes was killed early Saturday when he was found shot four times in The Park at Aberdeen Apartments at 2910 Sycamore Court, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Before he was killed, deputies said Fuentes-Fuentes had gone to his ex-girlfriend's place at 4012 Oak Limb Court and stabbed Luis DeJesus-Rodriguez, 27, multiple times. The stabbing took place just after 4 a.m., deputies, but they did not release any more details.

While DeJesus-Rodriguez was being taken to Florida Hospital Carrollwood, deputies said, DeJesus-Cirino and two others went to find Fuentes-Fuentes. They confronted him in the The Park at Aberdeen complex's parking lot, where he was shot.

DeJesus-Cirino apparently turned himself in Tuesday afternoon at the Orient Road Jail. He was being held without bail late Tuesday. His booking sheet lists his occupation as a "jockey" at the Tampa Bay Downs horse racing track in Oldsmar.

He was one of two men that Hillsborough sheriff's detectives said they wanted to talk to after Fuentes-Fuentes' death. It was unclear if the other man, Efrain Rivera Rosado, 24, was still being sought.

At the time he was killed, Fuentes-Fuentes was out on bail as he awaited trial for drug charges that included trafficking in heroin.
