One victim of Clearwater park double shooting dies

CLEARWATER — One of two people shot nearly a week ago at Marshall Park has died, police said.

Officials identified the victim as Peter W. Rakowski, 46, of New York.

Authorities said Rakowski and another unidentified person were found wounded by gunfire before dawn Saturday at the park, just east of N Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between Beckett and Marshall streets.

Hours later, police arrested Carlos Benito Jones, 24, of Clearwater on charges of attempted murder. Jones, who remains in the Pinellas County Jail, had been hiding in the bed of a pickup truck.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting, but said they are still looking for a second suspect.
