Pasco high school teacher charged with DUI

WESLEY CHAPEL — A Wiregrass Ranch High School teacher was charged with driving under the influence Sunday morning after she was found sleeping in the parking lot of another school, Pasco deputies said.

Leah Zachewicz, 26, was awakened about 2:30 a.m. by deputies in front of Dr. John Long Middle School, near the school where she teaches 12th grade English, an arrest report states.

Zachewicz, sitting in the driver's seat, tried to start her red Kia Sportage without a key in the ignition before opening the door and beginning to vomit, the report said.

Zachewicz said she had consumed six glasses of wine earlier, the report states. A breath test returned a blood-alcohol level of 0.116, above the .08 level of legal impairment.

The Pasco schools' website lists Zachewicz as an English and AP literature and composition teacher. She released from jail Sunday morning.
