Pasco jail inmate charged with attempted murder after trying to strangle deputy

LAND O' LAKES — A jail inmate is facing an attempted murder charge after deputies say he tried to choke a Pasco Sheriff's deputy with his handcuffs.

According to reports, Joshua Patrick Moore, 21, threatened a deputy verbally Aug. 1. Moore grabbed the deputy's shirt collar and thrust the chain of his handcuffs up against the deputy's throat.

The deputy wrestled Moore to the floor, according to reports, but Moore was able to swing both his fists into the thigh and chest of another deputy trying to subdue him.

Moore has been in jail since December 2011 on a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon. In March 2012, he was charged with introducing or possessing contraband in jail.

He's now facing the additional charges of attempted murder and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Moore remains in jail in lieu of $12,500 bail for those two charges.
