NEW PORT RICHEY — Matthew Howard thought his girlfriend had been raped by a man she knew. At least that's the story she told him, Pasco sheriff's deputies reported on Monday.
Howard used her cellphone to send Justin Kilgore a text, pretending to be the girlfriend. He invited the man to her house in New Port Richey.
When Kilgore arrived about 1 a.m. Friday, deputies said, Howard greeted him with his fists and a sock with a heavy metal object. He slammed it against Kilgore's face and then chased him with a sword. Kilgore managed to escape out the back door and called for help.
Howard, 27, was charged with aggravated battery and later released on $15,000 bail.
There was no rape, deputies said, but the unidentified girlfriend did have consensual relations with Kilgore.
