Pasco school bus driver accused of DUI outside work

PORT RICHEY — A 55-year-old man who works as a Pasco school bus driver was arrested Sunday night on a charge of DUI.

Dennis R. Abshier swerved on U.S. 19, authorities said, and was pulled over just after 10 p.m. at Bougenville and Oleander drives. Abshier "refused to submit to field sobriety tasks and stretched his arms out to be handcuffed as he stated, "I know you're going to take me. I was weaving all over the road," according to a Pasco County Sheriff's Office report.

Abshier listed his occupation as a school bus driver for Pasco County schools. More information about his current employment status was not available Monday. Abshier was previously convicted of a DUI in 1998, Pasco court records state.

Abshier, of 8311 Moulton Drive, was released Monday from the Pasco jail.
