Pasco teen accused of breaking into elderly woman's home as she slept

ZEPHYRHILLS — A teenager is accused of breaking into an elderly woman's house while she slept, stealing her costume jewelry, rifling through her medications and waking her up by shining a flashlight in her face.

The incident happened at 11:15 p.m. Nov. 24 on Charter Street in Zephyrhills. The woman, then 87, told authorities she screamed and the burglar took off. She ran to a neighbor's house to call 911.

Blaine Dean Watkins, 18, of 8131 Cass Road in Zephyrhills, was arrested Wednesday. He is charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling and petty theft.

Watkins' fingerprint was found in the victim's home, according to a report from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office. The victim said she does not know Watkins.

The teen is being held without bail in the Pasco County jail.
