HOLIDAY — A woman is accused of running over a pedestrian on U.S. 19 early Saturday morning, leaving the scene and going home.
Laurie Ann Rineer, 49, was driving south on U.S. 19 at Moog Road just after 1 a.m. when cars in front of her swerved to miss a pedestrian, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Rineer hit the pedestrian, Baijon Rose of Holiday, who walked in a crosswalk even though oncoming cars had a green light, a report states.
Rose was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Hudson, where she remains in critical condition.
At 3:30 a.m. Rineer called the Sheriff's Office to say she might have hit someone, authorities said. Rineer told investigators she "left the scene because she had panicked," the report states. Rineer slurred, smelled of alcohol and "admitted to consuming a couple of pitchers of beer throughout the night," FHP said. She was arrested and charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.
Rineer, of 2647 Albion St. in Holiday, was released from the Pasco jail Saturday on $5,000 bail.
