TAMPA — Authorities from both the Tampa Police Department and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office are looking into how files containing private financial information ended up in two Dumpsters.

The owner of a hair salon, Claudia Dozier, discovered the documents as she was taking out the trash behind her business, Hair Visions Salon, south of Temple Terrace. Dozier called a television reporter, who determined that they were mortgage applications belonging to Creative Financial Services of Tampa Bay Inc., a mortgage lending company.

Dozier also notified authorities. A second trash bin filled with sensitive documents was also discovered next to the building that housed the lending company, according to Tampa Police.

"Although the information was disposed of in a Dumpster, there was a substantial risk this information may be taken for some kind of identity fraud," said Tampa Police Lt. Lee Bercaw.

The investigation is continuing.
