Pharmacist badly injured in Temple Terrace robbery

TEMPLE TERRACE — A pharmacist is in critical condition after he was beaten during a robbery Saturday night, according to Temple Terrace police.

Just before 8 p.m., the robber broke into the rear of the Omega Drugs Pharmacy building at 11410 N 56th St. and "surprised the pharmacist from behind," police said.

The man struck the pharmacist several times while demanding drugs, police said. The suspect fled with a small quantity of an unspecified drug, police said, and the pharmacist called police.

The pharmacist, who was not identified by police, had injuries to his upper body. Police said they saw no evidence that a weapon was used against him.

The pharmacist was being treated at Tampa General Hospital.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call police at (813) 989-7110.

  4. Goliath grouper are anything but gentle giants for Florida fishermen

Goliath, the biblical giant, wasn't known for bothering fishermen. But the gigantic fish named after him — they can weigh up to 800-pounds — is notorious for exactly that.

Biologists take samples from a goliath grouper that was caught in the Gulf of Mexico. The fish was released back into the gulf. Florida fishermen have petitioned the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to allow them to catch the up to 800-pound fish for a limited time.
