DUNEDIN — A 63-year-old crossing guard was arrested Sunday night on charges that he fired a gun during an argument, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

David J. Dufresne, who was hired by the Sheriff's Office in 2011, faces a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Dufresne was arguing with a relative in his Dunedin home when he retrieved a firearm from his bedroom and fired one round toward a dresser in another room, the Sheriff's Office said. His relative was not hurt.

Dufresne was booked into the Pinellas County jail, where he remained Monday.
