Pinellas deputies: Woman tried to set ex-boyfriend on fire

Deputies were searching Friday night for a woman they said tried to light her ex-boyfriend on fire after the two argued about a debt, Pinellas County Sheriff's officials said.

Kamekia Russell, 36, met Oscar Mitchell, also 36, at a convenience store in Pinellas Park near 42nd Street North and 62nd Avenue North. Russell was upset about money she reportedly lent Mitchell some time ago and demanded he pay it back, deputies said.

Mitchell left the store and went to the Lakeside Terraces Apartment Complex, where he is staying with his mother.

Russell followed him to the second story apartment, and that's where deputies say she doused him with lighter fluid.

Mitchell ran outside and Russell set the drapes aflame, which spread and burned a sofa cushion, authorities said.

Mitchell watched her leave, and later he ran back inside to extinguish the fire, deputies said.

As of Friday night, the sheriff's office was still searching for Russell.
