PINELLAS PARK — A 54-year-old woman was arrested Friday after police found 17 malnourished cats in her apartment with no food or water.
Betty Darlene Dowell was staying at her sister's home in Clearwater when officers discovered the starving felines in 7265 53rd St., Apt. A., Pinellas Park police officers said.
Feces littered the floors, sinks, shelves, cabinets and bathtub. Dowell admitted to owning the cats and told police she returned to the apartment "every several days," officers said.
Dowell faces a misdemeanor charge of confinement of animals without sufficient food, water or exercise.
