Police arrest St. Petersburg man in attempted homicide

ST. PETERSBURG — A 52-year-old man has been charged with trying to kill his wife with a shotgun on Thanksgiving.

Michael Eugene Thomas was charged with attempted murder. He was arrested about 4 p.m. Thanksgiving day at his home, 3131 24th Street N.

According to police, Thomas fired a pump-action shotgun at Lauri Thomas at their home. She was able to push the gun away from her body as her husband pulled the trigger. She was not injured.

Police said there were indications that alcohol influenced the incident.

Thomas was being held at the Pinellas County Jail without bail Friday night.
