Police: Bank robbery suspect arrested after witness follows him

ST. PETERSBURG — A man who robbed a north St. Petersburg credit union Tuesday afternoon was arrested after a witness followed him to a nearby motel, according to police.

Thor Ian Gensinger, 35, walked into Achieva Credit Union at 413 62nd Ave. N about 1:30 p.m. and passed a note demanding money to a teller, police said. After receiving cash, Gensinger left on foot.

A witness who was inside the credit union during the robbery followed him to room No. 4 at the El Patio Motel at 6733 Fourth St. N, where Gensinger had been living, police said. The witness then phoned police.

After officers arrived, Gensinger came outside with his hands raised, police said. He was booked in the Pinellas County Jail on a charge of strong arm robbery and held on $20,000 bail.
