TARPON SPRINGS — The manhunt across two counties for a wanted suspect ended Monday afternoon with his capture along the Pasco-Pinellas line around 5:45 p.m., authorities said.

Tarenzo Ladarius Smith, 20, ran from Pasco County deputies about 3:30 p.m. Monday, authorities said, as they tried to arrest him on Pasco warrants for sale of cocaine and failure to appear in court on a battery charge.

But Smith is also wanted in connection with a charge of attempted murder from Pasco County, according to Tarpon Springs police.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office committed a helicopter and a K-9 unit to the search. Deputies had warned the public that Smith was armed and not to be approached.

Law enforcement concentrated the search around the Riverside Apartments complex.

"There was a team that was a combination of the three agencies going door to door because there were some empty apartments in that complex," said Tarpon Springs Lt. Barb Templeton,

They cornered Smith in a maintenance shed and arrested him, Templeton said. He was not armed, she said, and was arrested without incident.

According to state records, Smith's first arrest was at age 12 for domestic battery in Clearwater in 2001.

Two years later he was accused of battery on a juvenile probation officer in Pasco County. He also has arrests for armed burglary and possession of cocaine and marijuana from Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, records show.

Smith, of 1435 Dartmouth Drive in Holiday, will be booked into the Pinellas County jail. No details about the attempted murder investigation were available.
