Police: Clearwater man sexually assaulted woman at gunpoint

CLEARWATER — Police say a Clearwater man sexually battered a woman at gunpoint after meeting her at a bar and possibly slipping a drug into her drink.

David Hines, 62, was arrested on charges of sexual battery with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm.

Hines, of 705 Blanche B Littlejohn Trail, remained in the Pinellas County jail without bail Monday morning.

The incident happened about 3 a.m. Sunday. Police said Hines met the unidentified 41-year-old woman at a Clearwater bar. He might have drugged her drink, police said.

The woman got into his car because she thought he was going to give her a ride home, police said. Instead he took her to his home, where police said the battery took place.

The woman told police that before the battery, Hines also made her smoke crack cocaine as he pointed a black semiautomatic .45-caliber handgun at her head, according to an arrest affidavit.

The investigation continues.
