Police: Delaware minister arrested in Clearwater after impregnating a 16-year-old girl

CLEARWATER — A Delaware minister was arrested here Friday morning and accused of impregnating a 16-year-old girl.

James E. Miller, 42, was arrested at 10 a.m. at a relative's Fulton Avenue home in north Clearwater, Clearwater police said.

An ordained minister from Felton, Del., he moved to Clearwater earlier this year, police said.

Miller is accused of having a sexual relationship with a girl who attended the church where he served as a youth counselor, a Delaware State Police report shows.

They met for five months in 2008, police said, at his home in Chester, Penn., and her home in Smyrna, Del.

During the relationship, the girl became pregnant and gave birth to a daughter, whose DNA proved Miller was the father, police said.

Delaware police charged him with 11 counts of fourth-degree rape, sometimes called statutory rape, and endangering the welfare of a child.

He remained at the Pinellas County Jail on Friday afternoon.
