Police: DNA links St. Pete man to sex assault of 14-year-old

ST. PETERSBURG — Police arrested a 54-year-old man they say had sex with a girl 40 years younger than him.

Darrell Williams, of St. Petersburg, was linked to the assault by DNA, police said. According to an arrest affidavit, the encounter, which the 14-year-old girl said was consensual, happened in June.

The girl told police she and a friend, who are in foster care, snuck out of a house June 6 and partied with people they met. The teens smoked marijuana and drank alcohol, then had sex with some men, police said.

Sometime later, they experienced discomfort and went to the hospital, said police spokesman Mike Puetz. Hospital officials contacted police and notified the girl's foster mother, who had made a missing person's report.

Williams has been charged with lewd and lascivious battery.
