Police identify pedestrian hit, killed by minivan in Clearwater

CLEARWATER — The pedestrian killed as he walked across Gulf to Bay Boulevard on Wednesday night has been identified as 71-year-old Geroge Ferkowicz. There is no known address.

Ferkowicz walked into the path of a 2005 Chrysler minivan around 8:30 p.m., police said. The driver tried to swerve but couldn't avoid hitting him,

Officials said Ferkowicz was not at a crosswalk or intersection.
