TAMPA — A sexual battery was reported at Picnic Island Park late Monday, but police advised the area is safe and an arrest is unlikely.
A woman told police she was sexually battered at the park some time between 7 and 8 p.m. and that she did not know her attacker.
After searching the area and investigating the alleged crime, police determined the woman knew the man she accused of sexually battering her, Tampa police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said.
This was not the only inconsistency with the woman's story, McGregor said.
Police are unlikely to make an arrest in this case, unless new information surfaces.
