Police investigating death of man found behind vacant Clearwater restaurant

CLEARWATER — Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found behind a vacant restaurant building.

According to Clearwater police, a woman walking her dog found the man's body and called police about 7:30 p.m. Monday.

He was identified as 40-year-old Casey Steven Garber. Police said he suffered trauma to the upper body, and they do not believe it was a random act of violence.

Police said Garber's current address is unknown. Pinellas County court records show he lived in Trinity in 2009.

His body was found behind the closed Dogwater Cafe at the Clearwater Executive Golf Course at 2506 Countryside Blvd., police said.

Police said it's possible he had been dead since Saturday, but an autopsy was still underway Tuesday at the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office.

Clearwater police ask anyone with information, including whether they saw any suspicious people or vehicles in the area between late Saturday night and Monday evening, to call the department's major case tip line at (727) 562-4422.
