ST. PETERSBURG — A man was fatally shot Wednesday morning outside a pool hall near Mel-Tan Heights, police said.

Lamant Lisbon, 42, was killed around 3 a.m. while standing in the doorway of Crabb Paradise, according to investigators.

Paramedics began treating Lisbon immediately after arriving on the scene, but he died on the way to the hospital.

Police said the shooting may have stemmed from an argument that escalated. They are asking witnesses to step forward and help with the investigation.

"The place was open. People were there," said St. Petersburg police spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez. "We know somebody saw something."

Many fireworks had gone off in the area before the shooting, Fernandez said, which may have kept people from realizing there was gunfire.

The investigation closed 18th Avenue S between 30th and 31st streets, police said.

Police filtered in and out of Crabb Paradise on Wednesday morning, laying yellow evidence markers beside items strewn throughout the parking lot. A smiling crab held a cocktail in the painting on the side of the building. Beneath the mural was a mess of cups and a broken picnic table. In the doorway, there was a pool of blood.
