LARGO — Police have arrested a man they say robbed a Largo bank and told tellers the backpack he left behind contained explosives.

Anthony Jerome Walker, 42, of Clearwater was charged with armed robbery and placing a hoax bomb.

Officers found Walker driving a silver Dodge truck near N Betty Lane and Palmetto Street in Clearwater, pulled him over and arrested him Friday afternoon, Largo Lt. Stephen Slaughter said.

The Fifth Third Bank at 1698 Missouri Ave. was evacuated after the robber fled the bank on a bicycle June 3. The Tampa Bomb Squad examined the backpack he left behind, police said, and found no explosives.

Walker was in the Pinellas County Jail Friday with bond set at $70,000.
