LARGO — A 23-year-old man accused of fatally shooting another after a home invasion gone awry was arrested Tuesday night, police said.

Frank Charles Freeman faces a charge of first-degree murder.

On July 13, Freeman and two other suspects, whom police have not identified, agreed to break into McKinley Torbit Jr.'s apartment at the Tara Garden Apartments, 1630 Jefferson St., an arrest report states.

They couldn't get in and when Torbit, who was not armed, opened the door, the men got into a confrontation and shot Torbit, according to a report. He later died at Morton Plant Hospital. Additional arrests are pending, police said.

Freeman, who is also facing unrelated drug charges, was booked into the Pinellas County jail, where he remained Wednesday without bail.
