Police officer witnesses drive-by shooting, arrests two suspects

ST. PETERSBURG – A police officer arrested two people he allegedly saw engage in a drive-by shooting outside a home that contained six people, including a 7-year-old child, Sunday night.

Del'Juan McKenzie, 19, and Latoria Martin, 23, both face several counts of attempted homicide, according to St. Petersburg police. Officer Ryan Larson allegedly spotted McKenzie leaning out of the window of a Ford Tempo, shooting as Martin drove past 947 23 Ave. S about 11:30 p.m.

No one inside the home was hit by any bullets. One person outside the house also survived without being shot.

McKenzie and Martin were stopped on 23 Avenue S not long after the shooting, and an officer found two semiautomatic weapons inside the vehicle, as well as several spent shell casings.

No further information was immediately available.
