Police release surveillance video in fatal shooting at Tampa nightclub

TAMPA — Tampa police detectives released surveillance video Tuesday that shows people who may have witnessed a shooting early Saturday morning that left one person dead and another injured.

Wayne Lanier, 21, went to Hollywood Nites strip club Friday night, according to police reports, where a fight broke out just after 2 a.m. Police said security guards made everyone leave the club, at 3003 N Howard Ave., but shots were fired minutes after it emptied.

Lanier was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he died. Omar R. Bacon, 26, was treated at Saint Joseph's Hospital and released.

Police say the surveillance video shows people who were near Lanier when he was wounded and may have information on the shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting can call Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-873-8477, or fill out a report online at, and may be eligible for a cash reward.
