Police say elderly man found in hotel was murdered

TAMPA — Police arrested a 21-year-old woman Friday and charged her with the murder of an elderly man in a N Nebraska Avenue motel.

Officers found the body of the 83-year-old man in the room 3 of the Haven Motel at 7007 N Nebraska Ave., with upper body trauma. Ayana Sabrina Brown, who has no current address, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. and charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Jail records show she has been arrested several times and charged with battery, domestic violence battery, petit theft, assault and cocaine possession since 2008. Brown pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor battery and assault in March but was not prosecuted, court records show.

Police are working to notify the victim's relatives before they reveal his identity.
