Police say woman attacked in Ybor parking garage bathroom

TAMPA — A man tried to rape a woman in the bathroom of the Centro Ybor parking garage Sunday morning, police said.

Joseph Curtis Walker, 25, was arrested after police say he went into a stall where a woman was brushing her teeth and said, "let me help you."

The woman told police she said no, but that the man grabbed her by the shoulder, pushed her and tried to rape her. She escaped, police said, and security guards grabbed the suspect. The attack occurred at 8:42 a.m., police say.

Walker, whose address is listed "at large," was charged with attempted sexual battery and false imprisonment and is being held in Hillsborough County jail with no bond.

Last year, at Ybor City's Palm Avenue garage, police say a woman was attacked as she opened her car door. Javon Cooper, now 17, was charged with attempted rape, attempted murder and aggravated battery. His case is working its way through the court system.
