Police search for Tampa armed robbery suspect

TAMPA — Police are searching for a man they say robbed a Tampa convenience store at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon.

At about 4:50 p.m., a man came into the Gita Food Stores at 4804 N Florida Ave., walked up to the front counter and waited for the clerk to hang up his cell phone. He then pulled out a black semi-automatic handgun and told the clerk "put all the money in the bag now, now," police said.

The clerk grabbed a paper bag from behind the counter and gave the suspect cash. Then the suspect told the clerk to get down on the ground as he left the store.

Police said he ran north on N Florida Avenue. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 5-foot-9-inches to 6 feet tall, 180 to 200 pounds, possibly with facial hair resembling a full beard. He wore a flannel jacket over a white T-shirt, dark baseball cap and dark pants with dark shoes, white gloves and oversized sunglasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 813-231-6130.
